Executive Summary

In any print finishing or bindery operation, the folder is the backbone of production. An unreliable or undersized folder creates bottlenecks that ripple through your entire workflow — from the press to the inserter to the mail stream. Baumfolder has been engineering production folders and finishing equipment in Sidney, Ohio for decades, building a reputation for gear-driven durability, fast makeready, and a modular architecture that lets you expand your line as your business grows.

Whether you need a compact tabletop unit for short-run letter folds, a high-speed floor model with deep pile feeding for production bindery, or a specialized knife folder for bulky signatures and gate folds, the BAUM platform covers it. Every floor model ships with ifold — Baumfolder's built-in touchscreen tutorial system that walks operators through setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting with text and pictorial guides. Combined with BaumQuick paperless roller gapsets and micro-adjustable fold plates, makeready times drop significantly compared to older mechanical folders.

  • Gear-Driven Folding Rollers: Positive helical gear drive means zero slippage during folding — unlike belt-driven competitors that lose accuracy under heavy loads or over time.

  • ifold Tutorial System: Built-in touchscreen with 30 pre-programmed folds, 80-job memory, scheduled maintenance alerts, and step-by-step pictorial setup guides. It's like having a trainer on the floor 24/7.

  • BaumQuick Paperless Gapsets: Tool-free roller gap adjustment eliminates feeler gauges and paper-shimming, cutting makeready time on every job change.

  • True Modularity: Start with a standalone folder, then add independent feeders, knife folders, right-angle stations, finishing modules, stackers, and conveyors as your production demands grow — all from one manufacturer.

  • Toner & Digital Friendly: Static-dissipative, toner-resistant folding rollers handle laser and digital output without marking, scuffing, or jamming.

  • American Engineering & Support: Designed and manufactured in Sidney, Ohio with direct factory parts and service support through authorized distributors like Mailtech.

Tabletop Folders (714 Series)

The BAUM 714 series tabletop folders are compact, air-feed buckle plate folders built for short-to-medium run production. They handle coated stocks, laser-printed output, and high-speed copier sheets with non-marking, continuous bottom-feed separation. Sealed ball bearings require no lubrication, gear-driven rollers eliminate slippage, and the machines load and unload from the same end for tight floor layouts. The 714XLT Ultrafold is the workhorse — a rugged air/vacuum feed folder for letter folds, Z-folds, and accordion folds at up to 35,000 sheets per hour. Add the 714XLT 2nd Station for 8-page right-angle folding. The 714XAP Autofold adds automated fold plate positioning for faster makeready. And the 714LXT Microgluer integrates GMS glue heads for self-mailer production (see our GMS Glue Systems page for details on glue configurations)

Looking for a compact folder for digital print output? The 714XLT handles laser and copier stocks without marking. Download the brochure for full fold configurations.

Floor Model Folders (20 Series)

The BAUM 20 Series floor model folders are the production backbone for high-volume binderies and mail houses. Available in pile feed (20 PFF), continuous feed (20 CFF), and inline (20 INF) configurations, these machines handle sheet sizes up to 20.5" x 33" at speeds up to 8,200 inches per minute. Every floor model includes the ifold touchscreen tutorial, BaumQuick paperless roller gapsets, and micro-adjustable fold plates as standard. For jobs requiring bulky or multi-page folds that buckle plate folders can't produce — double gate folds, newspaper inserts, multi-language instruction sheets — the K20B Knife Folder operates independently or plugs directly into existing BAUM folder lines. The CF20 Creaser Folder adds pre-creasing for heavy digital stocks that would otherwise crack at the fold. Add 2nd and 3rd station right-angle folders (20-3-8 Page and 20-3-16 Page) for signature work requiring 8- or 16-page impositions.

Running a high-volume bindery or mail house? The 20 PFF with deep pile feeder and inline finishing modules is the most common production configuration. Contact us for a line layout consultation.

Feeders & Material Handling

Baumfolder's independent feeders and material handling equipment are designed to work upstream of the folder line — separating, feeding, and staging sheets for downstream folding, finishing, or inserting. These units operate independently with their own drive systems, making them flexible enough to integrate with BAUM folders or third-party equipment. The 20 IPF Independent Deep Pile Feeder handles large stacks with non-contact pile height sensing for uninterrupted production runs. The 20 ICF-3 Independent Continuous Feeder is built for web-fed or continuous stream applications. The HVF Timed Feeder/Loader delivers precisely timed sheets into downstream inserters, collators, or packaging equipment.

Need to feed into an inserter or collator? The HVF Timed Feeder/Loader delivers sheets at precisely timed intervals for seamless integration with downstream equipment.

Finishing Modules & Accessories

Baumfolder's modular finishing components connect directly to the 20 Series floor model folders to build complete inline production systems. The 20 VFM Versatile Finishing Modules add slitting, scoring, perforating, and trimming capabilities inline with folding. The Plow Folder handles plow-style folds for self-mailers and specialized mail pieces. The 20 RCS Receding Delivery Stacker and Rollaway Stacker automate output handling, while the 20 MIRT Transfer Conveyor moves product between stations.
