Frequently Asked Questions
What is Piezo Drop-On-Demand and why does it matter?
Piezo DOD is the inkjet technology used in the Quantum. Unlike thermal inkjets, piezo systems use precisely controlled mechanical vibrations to fire ink drops, allowing for finer drop control, broader ink compatibility (including UV-curable), and significantly longer printhead life.
Can the Quantum print on corrugated packaging?
Yes. The Quantum's print width scales from 4.25" up to 8.50" and supports both aqueous and UV-curable inks, making it well-suited for corrugated cartons, plastic packaging, paper-based products, and direct mail without changing equipment.
What ink brands and types does the Quantum support?
The Quantum supports aqueous Harris inks and UV-curable inks from Bosch and Picart. Drop volumes are configurable: 3, 7, 11, or 14 pL for UV, and 5, 7, or 12 pL for aqueous, giving you precise control over ink usage and print quality for each job.
What is variable data printing software?
VDP software merges your data file — the mailing list, barcodes, versioned offers — with the layout and drives the printheads piece by piece. Buskro systems run Compose IQ, which handles addressing, IMb barcoding, numbering, and multi-record layouts natively, so your operator works from one screen.
How much does variable data printing cost per piece?
With a production inkjet system like the Quantum, addressing-level VDP typically runs a fraction of a cent to a few cents per piece depending on coverage — bulk ink delivery drives the cost far below cartridge-based printing at volume. Mailtech will model your real cost per thousand from your actual pieces, and we stock the UV ink and bulk ink locally.
