How to Pick the Right Glue
Pick the glue by the job
Card, magnet or sample the reader peels off: fugitive (“booger”) glue. Low tack. Comes off clean, no torn paper.
Plastic credit card, gift card or key tag: credit card glue. Holds through the mail, peels off clean.
Insert, coupon or brochure that stays put: glue dots. Medium tack. No mess, no dry time.
Bindery and inserter lines, folder-gluers, snap-pack work: cold glue.
Tack: how hard it holds
Low tack comes off. Fugitive glue and low-tack dots. For anything the reader takes off.
Medium tack holds paper to paper. Still peels off most plastic. This is our stock glue dot.
High tack is permanent. Don’t run it on a piece someone has to remove.
Form: how it goes on
Hot melt pillows go in a standard hot melt tank. Inline on the inserter or in a hand gun. Capital Adhesives HM6113PE, 35 lbs a case.
Glue dots come on a roll. Put them on by hand or with a dot applicator. Tacky Glue Spots, 6,000 a roll. Other tacks and sizes by the case.
Cold glue runs through a cold glue system, like the GMS Microgluer units we install. Capital R41102.
Before a big run
Test on your real stock. Coated and uncoated paper hold differently.
Match the viscosity to your gun and nozzle. Wrong viscosity means strings, misses and a line down.
Keep dots and pillows sealed and out of the heat. Heat and dust kill tack.
Wrong Glue, Line Down
When glue doesn’t spray right, your line turns into a mess. Strings, skips, glue on the rollers. Most of the time it’s the wrong viscosity or the wrong tack, not the machine.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is glue sold, and how fast can I get a skid?
Hot melt by the 35-lb case, glue dots by the roll or case, cold glue by the case. Cases ship the same day. A skid is usually a few days out; tell us the date you need it on the floor.
Which glue do I need for my card affixer?
Fugitive hot melt pillows for cards, magnets and samples that peel off clean. Credit card glue for plastic cards. Tell us the affixer and the piece and we match tack and viscosity.

How do I know which tack level to use?
